Introduction to Mounted Archery

Mounted archery blends horsemanship and archery into a fast, focused discipline where you learn to shoot accurately while riding at speed. In this introduction, riders will build a foundation in understanding a horse bow and why careful equipment checks matter—spotting wear or damage in the bow, string, arrows, and safety gear before every session. You’ll practice core bow-and-arrow shooting skills on the ground, including speed nocking for smooth, consistent shots, then progress into mounted archery techniques like balanced position, timing, and shooting from a moving horse. The clinic emphasizes instinctive, intuitive shooting and introduces common horse-archery range disciplines, while also developing the horse side of the partnership through desensitizing work, rein-less riding skills, and confidence-building exercises that support safe, effective shooting from the saddle.
